MPS Strong Reads to host first-ever Summer “Tale-gating” Party!

June 3, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

MINNEAPOLIS – To kick off its summer reading program, MPS Strong Reads (a campaign of Minneapolis Public Schools) will host a Summer Tale-gating Party involving therapy animals and stuffed animals, Race to Read bike rides, free book giveaways and more. Hoping to ward off the “summer slide”—the loss of reading skills over the summer—MPS Strong Reads encourages students and families to find fun ways to make reading part of each day over the summer.

Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey will join students for the festivities at Elizabeth Hall International School. Through engaging activities with books and animals, MPS Strong Reads hopes to spark excitement about reading and demonstrate ways families can do the same. Reading together is great family bonding time and helps kids develop a lifelong love of reading.
